Applications of anodic metals
2025-11-07
Anodizing is a widely applicable process for aluminum, zinc, magnesium, titanium, and other non-ferrous metals and alloys. It can be applied to materials regardless of how they are manufactured—whether by CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, extrusion, or any other method. Let's discuss the applications of anodized metals through specific examples from across various industries.
Anodized aluminum
You can anodize aluminum alloys from the 1000 to 7000 series (except for the 3 and 4000 series). Anodizing aluminum forms an oxide layer on the surface of parts, giving them not only a customized color and aesthetic appeal, but also improving their resistance to corrosion, wear, and scratches. Here are some application examples;● Automotive parts, such as wheel covers, fuel tank caps, engine covers, trim pieces, and control panels.
● Lightweight aerospace components, such as skin panels, structural parts, fasteners, and interior items of the cabin.
● Household appliances and kitchenware.
● Electronic and electrical enclosures.
● Medical equipment casings, scalpel handles, sterilization tray handles, etc.
Magnesium Oxide
Magnesium is a lightweight metal with an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Anodizing is an ideal primer for magnesium if further coating is required. Meanwhile, a hard anodized coating (followed by sealing) can give magnesium components corrosion resistance.Application examples;
● Bicycle frame components
● Vehicle battery casing
● High-performance tools and hardware
● Drones, satellites, and aircraft components
Zinc oxide

Zinc itself possesses wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant properties, and anodizing further enhances these properties and extends the service life of manufactured parts. The oxide layer on the surface of anodized zinc contains phosphates and chromates.
Anodized Titanium
Application examples;
● Automotive fasteners, aircraft anodized screws, fuel system parts and other small mechanical components.
● Nuts, bolts, pipe fittings, building hardware, decorative items and lighting equipment.
● Electronic casings, tool handles, furniture hardware, etc.
Anodized Titanium
Titanium is a high-performance engineering material used in aerospace, medical, defense, and other industries. Anodizing titanium primarily employs Type 2 and Type 3 methods. Vibrant iridescent colors can be produced in titanium without the need for dyes. Therefore, it is biocompatible and suitable for various medical applications.
Application examples;
● Aerospace fasteners, hydraulic system components, structural housings, etc.
● Medical implants (e.g., hip replacement, dental implants) and surgical instruments
● Automotive connecting rods and muffler components
● Watch case and bracelet
● Eyeglass frames
● Golf clubs, bicycle parts, etc.
